A lot has changed in the nearly eight decades since we invented the 410 CHANNELLOCK NUTBUSTER®, our original tongue-and-groove, slip-joint plier that’s perfect for busting loose stubborn and corroded pipes, nuts, and bolts.
For many, many professionals and DIYers, no tool has become as indispensible as the NUTBUSTER®. If you’ve ever spent a weekend afternoon with your legs sticking out from under a vehicle or kitchen sink, you probably know all about stripped bolts, corroded pipes, rounded-off nuts and the importance of having the right tool for the job. With a parrot-nose design and laser-heat treated, no-slip teeth, the 13.5” 414, 9.5” 410 and 7” 307 NUTBUSTER® pliers are designed to lock tight on round surfaces and bust loose nuts, not your knuckles.
NUTBUSTER® pliers have been the ideal tool for gripping since a young man by the name of Howard Manning came up with their unique design in 1933. The world was much different almost 80 years ago. Back then, Channellock Inc. was known as the Champion-DeArment Tool Company, the country was in the middle of the Great Depression and you could trade a dollar bill for a dollar’s worth of gold. Manning, our company’s chief engineer at the time, sketched the design for a multi-position, tongue-and-groove, slip-joint type plier, and it was christened the CHANNELLOCK®. If you’re younger, you most likely think of our Straight Jaw tongue-and-groove plier when someone asks for their CHANNELLOCK® Pliers. If you’re an old-timer, you think of the 410 NUTBUSTER®.
We featured the original NUTBUSTER® in our first tool catalogue published in 1933. Almost 80 years later, the NUTBUSTER® remains the tool-of-choice when working with difficult, corroded, rounded-off nuts, bolts and pipes.
